When the vapor pressure inside the bubble is equal to the external atmospheric pressure, the bubbles rise to the surface of liquid and burst. The temperature at which this process occurs is the boiling point of the liquid.
Do little bubbles count as boiling?
When the first bubbles form, the water may still be lukewarm. In fact, these teeny bubbles actually have nothing to do with the bubbles of boiling. Those bubbles are full of hot, vaporized water. The first bottom-dwelling bubbles, however, are full of plain old air.
How does boiling occur?
Boiling is the rapid vaporization of a liquid, which occurs when a liquid is heated to its boiling point, the temperature at which the vapour pressure of the liquid is equal to the pressure exerted on the liquid by the surrounding atmosphere.
How do you find the normal boiling point on a graph?
To find the normal boiling point of a liquid, a horizontal line is drawn from the left at a pressure equal to standard pressure. At whatever temperature that line intersects the vapor pressure curve of a liquid is the boiling point of that liquid.
What does simmering look like compared to boiling?
BOIL: Liquid reaches 212 degrees ; large bubbles vigorously rise from bottom of pot and continually break surface. SIMMER: Liquid reaches 180 to 190 degrees ; small bubbles rise from bottom of pot and occasionally break surface.
